Travel to Broome & Kimberley in The Far North West
For those who enjoy adventure this isolated region of Australia has been a wonderful last frontier although with the release of the Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman movie 'Australia' that was shot here in 2007 this could change quite dramatically. Broome is the main town and gateway city. Rather than take the 1500 mile drive from Perth, increasing numbers are arriving for holidays in the Broome region by new airline services from Sydney and Perth. From Broome it is possible to explore the incredible deserts, gorges, and mountain ranges of this region and the white sand beaches and resorts of Cable Bay.
Choose from the following
Broome
Broome is located nearly 1500 miles north of Perth and is the gateway to the incredible Kimberly region. The white sandy beaches and the vivid blues and azures of the ocean are a surreal sight, especially in comparison to the dramatic red colors of the sorrounding desert. Broome is also an important Aboriginal center and art galleries displaying their artwork are located in the town; the paintings of their leading artists now command high prices in the international art market. The best season in Broome is late May to early September when the temperature is a balmy 85 degrees. Between late September & early May cyclones can occur with heavy rains closing many roads and intense tropical weather sets in.

Fitzroy Crossing & West Kimberley
Fitzroy Crossing is a small settlement that services local cattle stations and acts as a stopover destination for those exploring the rugged Kimberley and the nearby Geikie Gorge, found in the 8,000 acre Geikie Gorge National Park. Other points of interest close at hand include Tunnel Creek and Windjana Gorge.

Kununurra & East Kimberley
The east Kimberley town of Kununurra is 650 miles east of Broome and over 1964 miles north of Perth and is the gateway to the Bungle Bungles and Purnululu National Park. Other features of the region are Lake Argyle at 9 times the size of Sydney Harbour, the Ord River and Lake Kununurra. Kununurra is the perfect base for exploration of the Kimberley and forms an excellent access point for beginning the self-drive route to Broome, perhaps along the Gibb River Road.

Halls Creek
Halls Creek was the site of Western Australia's first Gold Rush. This soon fizzled out and now the old mining town is just ruins. However, fossicking around the old town is now popular, and you never know you might strike gold. Close to Halls Creek is the famous China Wall (the Western Australia one). It is worth seeing as it is quite beautiful. There are also a number of swimming pools around Halls Creek, including Caroline Pool, Palm Springs and Sawpit Gorge.
