Bay of Islands & Northland

Bay of Islands & Northland

Northland was the first region to be settled in large numbers by Europeans, in fact the small town of Russell, (just over 3 hours by car from Auckland), was briefly the nation's capital. It is also a region with a strong and vibrant Maori presence. Northland has the warmest climate, many beautiful white sand beaches and attractive native forests with golf, swimming, and fishing among its many attractions. American author Zane Grey was a regular visitor to the Bay of Islands and his fishing exploits made this region a magnet for fishermen from all over the world. If you enjoy history, culture, sunshine, and the outdoor life, then Northland is for you.

Thread 'The Hole in the Rock' & Meet the Local Dolphins

Thread 'The Hole in the Rock' & Meet the Local Dolphins

A day to enjoy watching bottlenose & common dolphins racing alongside the boat showing off their aerobatic skills. Often you will also see seals, orcas, whales and penguins. When we find dolphins, conditions permitting, you can put on a wetsuit and try boom netting - a great way to get close to these wonderful creatures even if you are not a confident swimmer. Visit the famous 'Hole in the Rock' where the skipper skillfully navigates the boat before gliding into spectacular Grand Cathedral Cave. The day ends with a stop on a secluded island to do whatever you please, be it a picnic lunch, snorkeling, hiking or just relaxing and enjoying the scenery.
