Auckland's massive Hauraki Gulf is home to a multitude of islands, the most visible of which is is Rangitoto Island, dominating the skyline from most vantage points in the city. After a short cruise to the island you will be met by your guide and transported to the summit passing through pohutukawa forest, lava trails and fern glens. After a short climb via a boardwalk you reach the top from where you will be treated to panoramic views of Auckland City and The Gulf. Travel back around the west coast side of the island through lush bush and fern glens.

Visit the Waipoua Forest with Footprints Waipoua

Visit the Waipoua Forest with Footprints Waipoua

A visit to the Waipoua Forest is an opportunity to see the largest and most magnificent native kauri trees in New Zealand, some of them over a thousand years old. The most famous is Tane Mahuta or the 'Lord of the Forest', which has a girth of 45', a trunk height of 58' and a total height 169'. If you add this to your Wish List we will arrange a twilight encounter tour with a local Maori guide where you will experience the sounds of the forests and hear about myths and legends of ancient times, a truly unforgettable experience.

Visit the Nature Recovery Project, Lake Rotoiti

Visit the Nature Recovery Project, Lake Rotoiti

This is an interesting driving route between Nelson and Blenheim. Start early and drive south from Nelson to the Kawatiri Junction, access point to beautiful Lake Rotoroa. At Lake Rotoroa take a short walk on the clearly signposted tracks alongside the lake and through the surrounding native forests. Continue driving east to the tiny town of St Arnaud (population 200) and Lake Rotoiti. Here you can visit the Nature Recovery Project where native wildlife has been re-established and you'll see and hear the results of this work; a forest alive with the sights and sounds of native birds. In the afternoon drive to the east coast (2 hours) and Marlborough, New Zealand's largest wine growing region.
